When there's not enough light to stop motion, Delpiano sets very long shutter speeds (here 1/4 sec) and goes for blur.
(70-210mm f/4-5.6 AF Nikkor, set to f/5.6.)
Note how the flow of costumes from this single Samba school forms a continuous river of pink through the picture.
(35mm f/2 Nikkor, 1/60 sec at f/2.)
Delpiano intentionally underexposed this night shot (1/250 sec and f/4) because he needed a fast shutter speed to stop the dancer's motion.
The resulting original was too dark, but Delpiano salvaged it by overexposing it during the duplication process. Result? Acceptable exposure.
(50mm f/1.4 Nikkor.)
