Blur is good:
When there's not enough light to stop motion, Delpiano sets very long shutter speeds (here 1/4 sec) and goes for blur.

Look for unifying elements:
To tame the chaos of a typical Carnival scene, Delpiano tries to incorporate unifying elements.Note how the flow of costumes from this single Samba school forms a continuous river of pink through the picture.

Do it in the dupe:
Delpiano intentionally underexposed this night shot (1/250 sec and f/4) because he needed a fast shutter speed to stop the dancer's motion.
The resulting original was too dark, but Delpiano salvaged it by overexposing it during the duplication process. Result? Acceptable exposure.
