Last few hundred miles and we are going to get home.
Relatively, since we already know we shouldn't be able to take possess of it until tomorrow.
But since we have done all the renting procedure through the telephone, without being able to see a single picture either of the apartment or the location in itself (Virginia is not exactly on the cutting edge of technology ...) then there is a certain curiosity about how it will be.

Virginia! It is green, and green and green
|
|
Here the last turn and we get into Williamsburg. Alive!

And our house, finally! All the section on the right is ours, first and second floor.

|
The back porch. Nice moss growing but very slippery

First meal in downtown Williamsburg. Nice café, Billie Holiday picture on the wall, good sandwiches

And the William & Mary University

One thing immediately jumps to the eye entering Virginia: no advertising outdoors on the roads (love that) and green, green green. It seems there are no houses, but we know there are, but they are hidden behind this curtain of green. Finally got there, rather easy to find thanks to the great navigational skills of Lise, and the house is rather well located. Very nice, all brick walls, back patio with moss and a forest as a view, seems spacious seen from outside. We have received a confirmation that we won't have the house until tomorrow and so it will be sleeping in a motel again for this night.
The heat is devastating, humidity: my guess is that is ranges higher than 100%. It's not possible? Ok then, but it seems to me that I am breathing underwater. Added with the stress of the whole journey ...

We immediately meet our neighbors, all coasting the 70-80 years of age, nice lively grandmothers living in our condo, I feel like retiring. I start dreaming of smoky jazz basements in NYC, I feel like painting my hair a nice purple, and put on piercing, just to feel ... me. Maybe I am passing out because of the severe heat.
We take a little stroll in the city, found a bar that doesn't have the colonial look (good sandwich, I have to say), gone to check out how the William and Mary University is and then the hunt for a motel starts again, and for a place to eat, until tomorrow, please get me some air conditioning, pronto! Or I'll die, oh man what are we doing here to be boiled alive ...
